Why tourists are choosing apartments

Renting an apartment offers a very different vacation experience from booking a hotel stay.

Apartment Checkin

If we turned back time to ten years ago, the primary choice of accommodation for tourists was hotels. Holidaymakers loved jetting off to a new country and being lathered in the luxurious experiences and services that hotels offer.

On the other side of the accommodation ladder, rental properties were just breaking onto the scene and gaining some interest amongst tourists. However, many continued to ask the question “Why would you choose to do everything yourself, when you have an array of hotel staff who can do it for you?”

Fast forward to the present time and the popularity of vacation rentals has soared, with thousands of tourists now opting for the freedom that comes with a rental apartment experience over a traditional hotel break.

Renting an apartment offers a very different vacation experience from booking a hotel stay, but that doesn’t necessarily mean one is better than the other – it comes down to personal preference and what things you’re looking for when it comes to your vacation.

We’ve put together a brief list of why tourists are favouring rental apartments over hotels when it comes to their vacations:

1.     Unique stays: Rental property companies such as Airbnb offer a range of unique stays. How often do you get to stay in a treehouse, houseboat or a converted barn? We can bet your answer is ‘not very often’, which is why opting for a unique property adds that extra flair of magic to your vacation to make it a truly unforgettable one.

2.     They’re more social-distanced friendly: The coronavirus pandemic has no doubt impacted how people travel, with many holidaymakers feeling more comfortable staying in rental properties as you can socially distance from your host, pick up your key from a touch-free lockbox and entirely remove contact with anyone outside your own household.

3.     Extra space: When it comes to hotels, upgrading to a larger room or suite boosts the price of your stay by a lot. With rental properties, you can stay in an entire home with more space to roam and for a cheaper price, meaning you get more bang for your buck!

4.     Cheaper costs: The overall price of a rental apartment is often cheaper than a hotel because the property doesn’t have as much overhead. By spending less money on your accommodation, you’ll have more money to spend on exploring your location, activities and souvenirs to remind you of your vacation.

5.     You can live like a local: Renting apartments gives you more freedom of choice when it comes to what part of a city or town that you’d like to stay in. Hotels are typically concentrated to the tourist areas, whereas you’ll find holiday apartments everywhere – allowing you to immerse yourself into life as a local.

6.     Access to all the amenities you need: With rental properties, you’re given access to all the handy amenities that you wouldn’t typically find in a hotel. Washing machines, ironing boards and fully functioning television can now be a part of your holiday experience!

7.     You have more time to relax: With rental apartments, the extra space means you’re able to take some time out and relax by yourself for a few minutes. A jam-packed schedule can soon take its toll on you but having the freedom to unwind in the evening and enjoy the company of those you’re with is one of the most desirable perks of rental properties. At the end of the day, isn’t that what being on vacation is all about?!
